CARLY PAOLI THE ANGEL OF BEDAT
Madame Simone Bedat and Carly Paoli
WHEN Madame Simone Bedat founded Bedat & Co. - Geneve, she changed the dynamic of the world watch industry forever.
After 50 years working at the pinnacle of Swiss watchmaking, Madame Bedat set about bringing to life her vision for watches - becoming the first woman to found her own brand designed exclusively for women.
Bedat & Co. was born in Geneva - the home of horology - in 1996, as the world’s leading craftsman of fine timepieces for women.
The move proved a watershed for the luxury watch industry. Until then no brand had ever catered only for women.
Madame Bedat had given female consumers equality - in one of the most male dominated industries in the world - and in doing so, shattered the glass ceiling of her own profession.
Bedat & Co. - Geneve was founded on three core principles - to honour the achievements of women of excellence; to celebrate femininity through beauty and high-quality craftsmanship; and to give back through philanthropy.
Today her legacy is being kept alive by Mezzo Soprano in Residence, Carly Paoli - the Bedat Angel.
Carly’s journey began in August 2014 when she was unveiled as Bedat & Co.- Geneve’s Brand Ambassador and Mezzo Soprano in Residence after four years training at the world-class conservatoire, The Royal Northern College of Music.
In September 2014 she made her international debut at the David Foster Foundation Miracle Gala in Calgary, Canada, alongside Oscar-winners and some of the world’s most respected artists.
The fundraising event saw Carly perform ‘Angel, Save Your Love For Me’ , accompanied on the piano by 16-time Grammy-award winner David Foster.
The night raised over £5.1million for children needing life-saving organ transplants and echoed Madame Bedat’s commitment to giving back.
In October Carly was honoured by the International Women’s Media Foundation in Los Angeles, which seeks to empower women in the media, as the first performer in the event’s 25-year history.
She performed Because of You, a tribute to Pulitzer prize-winning photojournalist Anja Niedringhaus, killed while working in Afghanistan in April 2014, at the event which honoured five other female journalists working at the cutting edge of their industry.
This month Carly will take to the stage again, at the eighth annual Journey Through Time, Asia’s grandest luxury watch and jewellery exhibition.
It is only through Ambassadors like Carly Paoli that the spirit of Madame Bedat - the most important woman in the history of watchmaking - not only lives on, but thrives in the 21st Century.
